Our earthy Buchu tea is derived from the Agathosma betulina plant, an evergreen shrub that is indigenous to western South Africa. Buchu is a general term in South Africa that refers to aromatic plants, and when you open your pouch, you will see how Buchu lives up to its name with its unique aroma and rejuvenating taste that will revitalize your mind, body, and soul. For centuries, the highly aromatic Buchu leaves have been used by Indigenous people in western South Africa for their healthful properties and natural pain relief. Buchu was introduced to European settlers in the early 1700s by the Indigenous Khoi San people, who considered the herb to be a cure-all and an aid to longevity. Buchu has historically been used to treat inflammation, kidney, and urinary tract infections, as well as hypertension.

 Buchu grows in a small area of the fynbos, which is part of the only region in Sub-Saharan Africa to receive winter rainfall. The Mediterranean climate and cool mist make it an ideal environment for cultivating Buchu. All leaves are handpicked after taking approximately three years to grow from seedling to harvest.
